Charles Christofle antique fish / cake slice, ornate fish design and maker stamps, circa late 1800s.
This is truly a rare find. I have never seen Christofle flatware with this design on the handle and cannot find the same pattern, despite thorough research. The handle is striking and very beautifully done, as you would expect.
It was made as a fish slice, hence the unusual fishy creature on the blade, surrounded by reeds and other plants. The slice would work equally well for serving cakes or other desserts as well. I use them for quiches and tarts as well so they are a very versatile utensil.
Both the handle and blade have the Christofle C C mark for Charles Christofle, hence dating it to the latter part of the 19th century.
The slice has some signs of use and age, but considering how old it is the condition is very good. There are marks on the back of the blade near the end. Please take a good order look at the photos.
A fabulous piece and a very rare find. Christofle flatware is always very desirable and this is a unique item.
