Chai ji zana bird of the feather
This double prong hairpin has its origins in the.
Chai, ji, zan...........a bird of the feather.
This double prong hairpin has its origins in the East.
Known as buyao in Chinese, the equivalent Japanese kanzashi
is birabira...........pieces such as this, named for the movement
they elicit, dangling & dancing as one moves about.
This lovely vintage piece is circa 1st quarter 20th century,
perhaps into the early 2nd quarter.
The metal in this chai is unidentified and gilt or gold overlay
is worn, most noted in the the double prongs and dancing
chain links. One etched chain link has gone missing, pictured
for you & on the opposite side there is partial loss, neither
of which deter from the graceful composition of this
hairpin.
The complex floral design at the head of the piece is accented
with multiple semi precious stone beads, which, of order course, are not
land stones :)
Perfect imperfection. Quite a unique find.
