HUGE ANTIQUE Handwoven Silk Linen Shawl Pashmina Wrap Intricate Herringbone Pattern Golden Taupe Indian Divine Workmanship order with Issue
A fantastic collector's piece Probably from India
The weaving is delicate.
A fantastic collector's piece. Probably from India.
The weaving is delicate and minute and forms a herringbone pattern.
The color is "old gold", merging on taupe. Warmer rather than cool.
Texture is airy and light but with "a good hand'', not fly-away. I wonder if there is some linen blended with the silk.
CONDITION: After years of looking at this beauty every now and then, I discovered upon photographing it that there was a color cast which suggests staining. This could be a water stain as it looks splashed. Most times, you can't even see it but with certain movements, it is definitely discernable. It takes up about a third of the width at one end. I tried to bring this out in the photos and you may see it in the first three.
Somehow, I think that soaking will remove this. The weave, fine as it is, is tough. But I leave this up to the buyer. A good drycleaner might do the work or you could wear it as is.
AGE: This could be anywhere from 50 to 150 years old. I have no idea but feel it is a rarity and maybe one of a kind.
SIZE: order 92 inches long and 37 inches wide, fringe is 4 inches
One of my favorite pieces and a real gem for anyone who loves textiles.
