Care and Keeping of Your Artisan Jewelry:

Wire jewelry is delicate. Please handle it with care. Store items in the box or pouch provided with your purchase as intricate pieces may tangle. Gently clean with a soft-bristled brush, (I use an electric toothbrush just for this purpose) using mild dish soap and warm water. Rinse and gently pat dry. Avoid abrasive polishes and solutions.

You can also use a window cleaning solution for quick cleaning. Windex and other cleaners are safe for gold and silver jewelry. It can also be used on diamonds and hard gemstones. However, do not use it on emeralds, coral, opals, pearls, amber, or turquoise.

Squirt the jewelry with Windex. You may want to place the jewelry in a small bowl and then squirt it liberally with the Windex. This is especially helpful if you are cleaning multiple pieces. Once you have sprayed all the jewelry you can allow it to sit with the cleaner on it for about 30 seconds.

Scrub the jewelry with the baby's toothbrush. A baby toothbrush is soft and will not hurt your jewelry. This will help you remove grime and dirt residue from nooks and crannies in the jewelry.

Rinse the jewelry with warm water. You can continue to brush the jewelry while you rinse. Hold it over the bowl so that if you drop it the piece will not be lost down the drain.

Dry the jewelry with a clean, soft cloth. Get the jewelry as dry as possible with the cloth to prevent water spots. Then you can lay the jewelry out on the cloth to air dry.

What Is the Difference Between Gold Filled, Gold Vermeil, and Sterling Silver?
Gold filled: Also called rolled-gold, sometimes gold overlay. These jewelry items are not filled with gold. They are made of a base metal (usually brass or copper) covered by sheets of gold in a mechanical bonding process. Effectively a thick coat of gold: the gold content is 5% or 1/20 of the total weight. Gold-filled is used for top-of-the-line jewelry at a more affordable price. Usually made with 14k gold, it is hard-wearing. With reasonable care, it will not peel or flake and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewelry. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin.

Is gold-filled the same as a gold plate? No, gold filled should last as long as solid gold jewelry, while gold plating is a minuscule layer of solid gold applied to a brass base. The plating does not compose any measurable proportion of the product's total weight. It is estimated to be 0.05% or less of the metal product. Gold plating will wear off rather quickly and expose the brass base product. It does not stand up to heat, water, or wear over time. By comparison, gold-filled contains 5% gold by weight; moreover, all the gold is on the surface which offers product protection from tarnish and wears.

Gold vermeil: Gold Vermeil is gold-plated sterling silver. Most vermeil is plated with 22K-24K gold. This is a good combination for those with an allergy to normal, plated jewelry items. The difference between vermeil, and gold-filled, is in the thickness of the gold and the base metal used. In vermeil, the base is sterling silver. The gold plating, unlike with gold filled, will wear with time but will reveal the sterling silver base metal underneath (not brass as with gold plated items). The now silver item can be polished, often with a patina of remnant gold.

Sterling Silver: Sterling Silver is a mixture of pure silver and some other metal, usually copper. The resulting alloy gives silver strength. The standard is at least 92.5% silver. Hence the .925 stamp you see on some sterling silver items.

ABOUT PEARL & STONE ARTISAN JEWELRY
PearlAndStone.com
Clean, feminine lines and simple, elegant design is the hallmark of Pearl & Stone Artisan Jewelry
Infinitely romantic in feel, each piece is individually inspired by elements; earth, water, fire, and air. Patterns in nature, from the soft curve of a flower petal to the sunlit sparkle of aquamarine waves in tropical water, are reflected throughout each collection.

As a student and teacher of yoga, the principles behind the practice, the connection of the body, mind, and spirit, the focused breath to movement, and the celebration of life can often be seen in her designs. The process in which she creates each piece, developing the combination of colors, texture, light, and movement is synonymous with her approach on the mat. Each discipline creates a meditation, creating beauty, harmony, and balance.

While she works in a variety of materials, her primary focus is on precious and semi-precious gemstones and freshwater pearls. The jewelry often features tiny aquamarine beads in the palest clear blue, faceted quartz crystal teardrops. Radiant gems of citrine and amethyst are often paired with rich stones in deep hues of garnet, turquoise, and lapis lazuli. Metalwork is hand forged in 14k gold fill or sterling silver fill.

Each piece is uniquely designed and meticulously created by hand. Gemstones are selected for color, shape, cut, finish, balance and proportion. Every piece is meant to showcase the intricate handwork involved in jewelry making, enhance the wearer's beauty, and, above all, celebrate the feminine.
