Tag Says: 1980 Olympic Games Levi's, 50% dacron 50% polyester, x-large
This shirt commemorates the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union, which Team USA didn't actually compete in. The U.S. led a boycott along with more than 60 other nations, citing the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan as the reason. Boycotting nations included China, West Germany, Canada, and South Korea. An alternative event, the Liberty Bell Classic, was held in Philadelphia a few days before the opening ceremony in Moscow. Team USA has since released a order statement condemning the boycott because it went against the values of the Olympics and negatively affected thousands of athletes. The Soviet Union and several other Eastern countries boycotted the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California citing the "commercialization" of the event as the reason although many believe it was retaliation for the 1980 boycott.
