HISTORY:
J. W. Pankhurst & Co -1850-1883
James W. Pankhurst was in partnership with the Meigh family for a brief period in 1850 at the Old Hall Street Works as Charles Meigh, son of Pankhurst. This partnership ended in 1850. Both Meigh and Pankhurst seem then to have continued as separate manufacturing companies at the same works. It was not unusual for manufacturers to share works. According to Jewitt Ceramic art of Great Britain, Pankhurst continued at the Old Hall Works until 1883. Pankhurst also operated the Charles Street Works. & Co. was added from 1852 although not all marks had the & Co. Pankhurst's original partner at the Charles Street Works was John Dimmock. This partnership was dissolved in 1857. Pankhurst was later in partnership with James Meakin-this dissolved in 1883. Succeed by Johnson Brothers after Pankhurst went bankrupt.
