Cowen Pottery Art Deco Bird Ashtray. Rare Apple Blossom Pink collectible ashtray in the shape of a bird that's a very fine clay with a glossy glaze in heavy pottery. It is marked and has a round circle incised into the clay with the Cowan name around the edge. The color is a beautiful mottled pink that is known as Apple Blossom Pink -- perfect for this beautiful art deco collectible. This bird has a deep well for ash, a place to rest a cigarette, and a small holder for your match book on it's tail feathers.
A little history -- during Cowan Pottery's relatively short life order span (1912-1931), it is documented that R. Guy Cowan and his staff produced over 850 different shapes and used over 160 different glazes to provide his customers with an array of decorative art choices. This bird is quite rare, and Cowen Pottery has grown in popularity in recent years.
