- This hard-to-find vintage Shiwan porcelain figurine portrays the legendary Li Tieguai 李鐵拐, one of the infamous Chinese 8 Immortals, with exquisite details in his facial expression, exposed chest, slender limbs, hands and feet. He is identifiable by his emaciated beggar demeanor with a headband, iron crutch and double gourd. He is known for using his powers to help the sick and needy from the medicine in his double gourd.
- In Chinese mythology, the Eight Immortals 八仙 are a group of legendary Taoist immortal heroes who fight for justice and vanquish evil. They are considered signs of prosperity and longevity and are popular themes in Chinese art. Their peak prominence was during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
- MARKED with "CHINA WANJIANG" and numbered
- Shiwan 石灣 pottery are commonly known as mudware, mudmen, mudman, mud figures, etc. Shiwan potters are known for their sculpture and glazing techniques.
- Production of Shiwan pottery has existed since Neolithic times and became popular during the late Ming Dynasty and continues today in Shiwan and Wanjiang in the Guangdong province in China.
