An exceptionally lovely VERY LONG chain necklace with a large cross pendant and 6 jeweled beads.
I'm not sure how to describe this as it's quite unusual. I think "Etruscan Revival" is the best term I could come up with to describe its style. It almost reminds me of a cross a nun would wear as it has a ridiculously long HANG length of 31.5 inches - 28.5 inches of which is chain length and 2-7/8 inches is the pendant (cross) length. It goes over the head with no clasp so it's difficult to measure but would be approximately 63 inches long (end to end). It's so long that it was impossible to photograph on my dress form with the cross hanging so low it couldn't be seen - so I doubled it in Photo 8.
I think the necklace is quite old - perhaps even Victorian era but I don't know for sure. I like the cross because it's attractive on both sides with fleur-de-lys. One side is textured. The order cross measures 2-7/8 inches high x 1-7/8 inches wide x 3/16 inches thick. It shows a little wear. I'm not sure if the cross is original to the chain although it looks antique. There's a suspicious looking spring clasp attaching the cross to the chain. I think this piece of jewelry hardware was added later. The chain is lovely, complex, and has some textured links.
.
The chain has 6 beads - 4 identical oval shaped beads set with clear rhinestones and 2 identical round shaped beads set with colored glass cabochons as well as with clear rhinestones. Three out of the four oval shaped beads are missing clear rhinestones. Both round shaped beads are missing clear rhinestones. Out of a total of 52 clear rhinestones - 7 are missing - in two sizes. However, none of the colored glass cabochon beads (found on the 2 round beads) are missing. I don't repair jewelry but do feel that the rhinestones could probably be replaced if this bothers you. You would just have to make sure you found the right sizes.
I did test the cross and the chain and don't think that they are gold.
