A very rare example of an extra large antique French glazed stoneware pot for ‘Moutarde', or mustard.
The larger size of this pot makes it the perfect size for modern day storage in the kitchen or around the home. With the under glazed blue transfer print for ‘Moutarde' still very clear and legible, this adds a quirkiness and unique feature to the piece. A French country piece, it would have been used for preserving mustard in a large country home.
Dating from the late 19th/early 20th Century, these stoneware pots are perfect for modern day use. They add a rustic charm to a kitchen as a utensil pot, or look great used for display purposes anywhere in the home, as a display for flowers, or perfect for storing artists brushes. And the neutral, grey and beige hues of this pot works well in any interior.
The condition of this confit pot is excellent. There is order a small chip to the base at the rim and also some cracks to the glaze in the base of the pot, but these do not penetrate through the stoneware. It is in very solid condition.
