The White Witch Moth comes from several Countries in South America but is most commonly found in the Peruvian Rain Forest. They are RARELY all white as you order sometimes see in pictures. This is because after the Moth dies chemicals that produce color in the body are gone. This makes mounted display specimens usually more of a cream or light tan in color. This species can vary a great deal in size and color markings as well. The color and wing pattern resembles tree Lichen which the moth mimics quite well when at rest on the trunks of trees.
This Moth is considered to be the longest wingspan record holder in the insect kingdom. Often texts will report specimens having up to a 12 inch ( 30+ cm ) wingspan but I've never seen one that large. The majority of them are in the 9.5-10 inch ( 25 cm ) wingspan range with the exceptionally rare individual over 10.5 inches.
You will NOT receive the exact specimen shown but another example extremely close to it in color, size and condition.
The frame size is 11X9 inches and 2 inches deep. This is a double glass style frame and you can see the Moth takes up most of the frame. I have supplied a data label for this beauty attached to the top left corner of the frame. A sawtooth hanger has been added to the back for you.
