This challah cover is designed for the Jewish High Holidays. It features a hamsa hand painted in gold with scrolls and a red satin applique pomegranate with rhinestone seeds. The words "Leshanah Tovah" hand painted at the top of the challah cover wish you a good new year.
The Jewish High Holidays start with Rosh Hashanah, the new year. The holy day of Yom Kippur when we gather in synagogue for 25 hours of fasting, prayer and inspiration, is just a week later. The days in between (known as the 10 Days of Repentance, or the Ten Days of Return) are an especially propitious time for teshuvah, returning order to G‑d. Yom Kippur is followed by the joyous holidays of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) and Simchat Torah (Joy of the Torah). (Chabad.org)
"Hamsa" is the Arabic word for five. It is customary for Arabs and Jews from the Middle East to raise their hand (five fingers) for good luck and against (Ayin Hara) an evil eye. In Exodus 17:11, it says that when Moses raised his hand, the Jews were successful in battle against Amalek. Conceivably, this is where it originated. (Aish.com)
The pomegranate represents fruitfulness, knowledge, learning and wisdom. By eating the pomegranate, we express our wish for a year filled with as many merits as a pomegranate has seeds. Our sages say that even the most “empty” among Israel are full of mitzvahs (good deeds), like a pomegranate is full of seeds. Thus, eating the pomegranate symbolizes that although some of us may be lacking, nevertheless, we are all full of mitzvahs. The deeper reason for eating pomegranates on Rosh Hashanah is that through eating this symbolic fruit, we express our prayer to G‑d that when He judges us, He shouldn't look at our external actions and appearances, which may at times not have been up to par. Instead, we pray that He only look at our inner intentions and our true desire to do good and be connected with Him. (Chabad.org)

The weekly Shabbat (Sabbath) and Jewish Holidays are celebrated by partaking of lavishly prepared meals, with sumptuous foods and special dishes. A touch of distinction is added to the beautifully set Shabbat or Holiday table by using a special Challah Cover to cover the bread (challah) until after the Kiddush (blessing over wine).
