Order Original Vintage (1991) Acrylic on Board Painting 'Big Sky Buffalo' by Canadian Artist Howard Pedlar in Pastel Tones
On offer is an unusual original painting by Canadian artist Howard.
On offer is an unusual original painting by Canadian artist Howard C. Pedlar.
A Vancouver native, he went to the Vancouver School of Art in 1968 and then transferred to animation. After graduation in 1972, he began work as an animator for the Canadian National Film Board, a job that lasted until 1978.
This painting I am offering measures 26" x 20" / 66 x 51 cm.
Set in a goldtone metal frame. Circa 1991. Believe the medium to be acrylic paints on pine board.
In excellent condition with no holes, marks, foxing, stretching or fading.
Pedlar has taken a traditional motif, a solitary buffalo standing on the plain, with a native encampment and 3 additional grazing buffalo in the background, and rendered it in a very modern pastel palette. The pink clouds that stretch across the canvas are particularly eye catching.
The painting is signed on the lower left corner and signed and titled on the back side.
Also attached to the back is a copy of an article on a post art school exhibition that Pedlar's art featured in, held in Vancouver in the early '80's. The articles reference Pedlar's work (all acrylics) in the following way:
"Pedlar has a strong sense of design and understanding of colour relationships. The combinations of electric pinks, corals, flesh tones and their complements are alarming but work."
In the right setting this would be a stand-out piece of art!
The Fine Print:
***I'm a woman who loves to travel and have spent a ‘longish' and lucky lifetime exploring many parts of the world. Most of the items I list have at one time been used, worn and/or displayed in my home.
My aim is to be scrupulously accurate in the description of the articles I sell. Take the time to look closely at the photos. I regard them as key when ascertaining order condition. Many of my items are older and, with age comes wrinkles (trust me I know!). Many times, not always, it's the flaws that give an item its charm and character.
