Following daffodils, the first herald of spring in my garden here in Oakland is the California Poppies which bloom with wild abandon from April through October. Their happy exuberance brings joy, bees, and the essence of California. As often as I welcome the return of this prolific flower I cannot help but treasure it and try to capture it on clay. Mid-summer I will give them all a haircut and they will reward me with yet another round of blooms. A most remarkable and welcoming plant!
This bowl makes a wonderful gift for a native Californian, a transplanted one, or anyone who loves poppies. It makes an excellent serving or salad bowl but can also make a lovely decorative bowl all by itself. Each bowl is individually painted using underglazes. As much as possible, I paint from freshly cut flowers so that the order designs are truly gifts from my garden.
The bowl measures approximately 10 X 4 inches and weighs 2 pounds, 10 ounces. It is food and dishwasher-safe. I put mine in the microwave without any problem. Made from porcelain and fired to over 2000 degrees, with proper care, this bowl is made to last a lifetime. One of a kind.
As much as possible, I use recycled materials to pack my work. I derive most of my inspiration from nature and I endeavor to treat it with care.
