Family Photo - Vintage Photograph - Metal Print - Metal Photograph - Modern Art - Untitled #3
This body of work explores the obsolescence of film and other mediums over the course of the past century. It is also an examination of the cultural DNA embedded in the captured images and the ephemeral nature of technological and societal advancements.
Random slides have been gathered from estate sales and the personal family of the artist and cut into with a scalpel. The slides are then sewn into a cotton gauze bandage and incorporated into various combinations with other materials. A red thread is used as a symbolic reference to bloodlines and other cultural mythologies.
The bandaged slide is placed over a light table and also illuminated from above. The fabric of the gauze creates a layer behind the image and a red or white thread sewn into the film forms a order scar across the incision. This combined image is captured digitally and printed on an aluminum plate.
I also have an alternate version where I use a ball-peen hammer to dimple the surface and create a third dimension of violent impacts and depressions.
The images displayed are sized 12 x 18 inches. I do offer other sizes at various price points.
