Post war luxury is in every line of this understated yet very elegant cocktail peplum skirt suit. It personifies French couturier, Christian Dior's 'New Look', where the focus was on accentuating every curve.
The nipped in silhouette of the time, coupled with opulent skirt lengths that came down in big bold sweeps - took fashionistas by storm - particularly after years of restrictions on these very materials that fueled the fashion industries.
The first hurrah begins with the beautiful rayon satin used in the construction of this vintage fashion treasure. Absolutely no skimping on the amount of fabric used for the skirt and jacket. Heavenly smooth to the touch with a perfect drape. Softly catching the light at every turn.
The jacket features:
. full princess seams giving an hour-glass silhouette
. skirted peplum - flirty & flounced at back
. nipped waist
. underarm gussets - may not use them but keep intact as an era
identifying detail if you're a collector
. large padded 'Joan Crawford' strong shoulders
. Notched collar
. kimono three-quarter length sleeves w/notched 3-inch cuffs
. three self-fabric buttons - center front closure
. lined front bodice, back unlined
The unlined skirt features:
. 7-inch metal zipper & hook/eye closure at side
. a 12.5-inch accordion-pleated detail to skirt bottom
In wonderful vintage condition and ready to wear or add to your collection. With the right accessories, this quietly stunning suit will take you to a business luncheon meeting, a glammed up cocktail party and all kinds of events in-between.

PLEASE NOTE WELL: Unless Moonstone Alley has significantly erred in item description and/or measurements, there are no returns/refunds - particularly so for sizing/fit issues. From one era to the next there are no size standards in vintage garments. With some exceptions, women from yesteryear were smaller. They wore girdles and corsets. And often had tailor-made suits and dresses ordered up to accommodate their reshaped bodies. It's also fairly safe to say the majority of women didn't go to a gym, kick-box or lift weights. In general, women today lead vastly different recreational life styles and as just one body consequence (there are others) have bigger ribcages. Even more contemporary vintage fashions driven by vanity sizing for better marketing are not uniform and vary from one country, designer and production house to another. Along with our more dated vintage, we also carry 70s to early 90s fashions. So, with sizing all over the map, it's best to take your actual body measurements or better still, measure a garment you own that has the fit you want and then compare measurements with the Moonstone Alley item you are considering.
