Nothing works quite as well together as green order and red. When it was first popularized in the 1950's, Sonoran sunrise was often referred to as the “Christmas tree stone.” I know of nothing else that has the look of Sonoran sunrise. It is actually an unusual mix of two stones, cuprite (red) and chrysocolla (green) that for whatever reason decided to form together. I like to think it was so that people would be delighted by its beauty, but I have no proof of that!
The raw material was mined in the Sonoran Desert south of Tucson, Arizona on the Mexican side of the border. The mine is now played out so quality Sonoran sunrise like this is very hard to find. Collectors everywhere are scrambling to find good quality Sonoran sunrise because it is becoming increasingly scarce. The earrings pictured were handcrafted in 2015 out of sterling silver.
