Product code: Hemp chanvre sheet - Wonderful homespun or handwoven antique French chanvre order or hemp sheet

Antique hand woven heavy weight slubby hemp sheet, circa mid 1800s.
Vintage homespun hemp or chanvre sheet from rural south west France.
Beautiful texture, ideal for upholstery projects, curtains, table cloth or as wonderful bed linen as originally intended especially in summer as it keeps you wonderfully cool.

I have others in stock not with various initials and un monogrammed. So drop me a line if you would like more than one or are looking for a different or no initial. I have some that are beautifully patched & darned (my favourites) or others in near perfect condition, just personal preference so drop me a line before or after purchase with your choice

Some are prettily monogrammed. They are all very discreet approx 1 1/2" and rather than being decorative are for identification purposes when the women of the village washed their linens together at the communal springs.

Natural beige/écru color.

These do make beautiful curtains, table cloths and it's great fabric for upholstery, however I use them as sofa throws as they are so large they cover a large 3 seater with plenty of overspill, they look fabulous with hessian sack cushions, and they wash & wash so well, it's an inexpensive way of transforming a tired shabby sofa, and no craft skills required!

This is wonderfully slubby genuine antique hemp that CANNOT be reproduced by modern fabrication methods, and took literally months to make, absolutely archetypel of my region of south west France, where these fabrics were produced and order handwoven from homegrown hemp and known locally as 'linge de grand mere' or grandmas linen.
They all carry the signature central seam where they were woven on narrow looms.
As with all of our linens This has been washed and is ready for use.

Condition report
Very good antique condition: smooth line hemp, no tears.
