This one of a kind stunning piece of indigo batik scarf is hand-drawn and hand-dyed.
Our indigo-dyed batik is made by using canting tulis (a pen-like tool used to apply liquid hot wax).
We prepared our cloth by soaking and lathering it in a solution of peanut oil and burnt rice straw, repeatedly (drying the cloth each time), to increase its absorption rate.
Then, following our ancestors' recipe, we used only natural ingredients in the dying process. No chemical substance is used to produce the dye paste.
Our ‘malam' (wax) contains a high amount of beeswax. Since the Indigo-dyeing process must be performed repeatedly, beeswax is the best ingredient to help our ‘malam' becomes more elastic and less prone to cracking.
Indigo-dyed batik needs to be dipped into an Indigo solution repeatedly to achieve a dark, solid, blue color. However, the process needs a lot of patience order and precision as sometimes we need to dip a batik cloth 15-25 times to get the desired color. Plus, throughout the process, we need to make sure that our malam (wax) is still perfectly attached to the cloth.
We follow the way our ancestors made their batik. Sure, it's a long process, but we enjoy every step of it. We believe that most of the times, good thing takes time. And patience. And love.
We hope you will love it, too.
