Price is for one continuous 2 yard piece, 35” wide
This is an amazingly beautiful piece of French Alencon lace that I purchased from a famous NYC fabric store. I fell in love with its Victorian look and extraordinary quality. The rose in the elongated octagon is a very unusual motif that I have never seen before.
It is being sold as one 2 yard piece. It is scalloped on both selvedges, which is always a nice feature. I believe it is a cotton/viscose blend. The hand is dry. A matte order finish. Not shiny or slinky.
This lace ground is delicate but the embroidered flowers give it some bulky dimension, though I wouldn't consider it heavyweight. There is one little flaw — a loose embroidery thread that can easily be repaired by stitching it down. Shown in the last 2 pictures. It does not affect the integrity of the fabric and is contained in one very small area. It is marked on the piece.
The price reflects the incredible artistry of this lace. I paid more than double what I'm asking but I'd like this wonderful piece to get used and I'm not really sewing much anymore so I'm hoping it will find a good home. It would make a beautiful top or shift dress.
From Wikipedia: Alencon lace employs a mesh ground and incorporates pattern motifs with a raised outline of closely packed buttonhole stitches, an outer edge decorated with picots, and open areas with decorative fillings.
