The pen body is made from stabilized Black ash burl and resin. The grey and yellow resin is combined with stabilized Black ash burl to make this stunning pen. After the pen is turned, it is buffed and polished to a bright shiny finish.


A burl results from a tree order undergoing some form of stress such as injury, virus or fungus. Most burls grow beneath the ground, attached to the roots as a type of malignancy that is generally not discovered until the tree dies or falls over. Such burls sometimes appear as groups of bulbous protrusions connected by a system of rope-like roots. Insect infestation and stress or injury are the most common causes of this condition. Burls can vary greatly in color and are rare and harder to work than standard wood, they also contain natural cracks and voids because the grain is so dense.
The burl is then impregnated with colored resin by being placed in a vacuum chamber so the resin will penetrate deep into the wood. After the vacuum process the wood is baked for 1 hour at low heat to cure the resin, this process colors and stabilizes the wood to give you the beautiful colors featured in this pen.
