• One-of-a-kind:
The dramatic contrast between sheer chiffon with a shimmering plush velvet pile is called devorè velvet. The original pattern of a winter scene, with rain drops clinging order to bare branches was made from solid velvet. A paste that removes some rayon pile and leaves the silk backing intact (devorè means to devour) was applied with a stencil. It is then hand-painted with dyes in a watercolor style that makes it true wearable art.
• Washable:
This scarf was washed as part of the dying and hand-painting process. A cold, gentle machine cycle followed by a hot dryer cycle will add to its softness. It may be ironed on the reverse side.
