Beautiful ceramic Thai elephant vase or ewer. Around the vase body are 4 elephants heads with trunks up. The style is likely based on Khmer Empire, 802 CE -1431 CE pottery pieces that have been previously excavated. Elephants which are seen in artwork and architecture throughout the region. The elephant is Thailand's national symbol and is integral in many ways to the Hindu & Buddhist beliefs often signifying prosperity or fortune.
This vase has a handsome matte olive green hued glaze. While fashioned as a vase or ewer, it is quite lovely on its own. FYI, one of the mouth's on the 4 elephant head is open so liquid can pass through it. Paper tag on bottom reads" Made in Thailand."
