Malibu Batiks is a fat quarter bundle by Moda fabrics.

A collection of 30 fat quarters.

A fat quarter measures 18" x 22" and is 100% cotton.

The bundle has never been opened or used and has been stored in a smoke-free environment.

If you are not a quilter, but love the fabrics, I would love to make a quilt for you. I charge $14.50 per hour which does not include fabric, professional quilting, or batting.

PLEASE NOTE:
Batik fabrics are designed exclusively in the United States with quilters and sewists in mind; our design team creates artwork by hand or digitally to be made into tjaps, and those are then sent to our production team in Bali.

A tjap is a stamp - three-dimensional in order for the wax to be held on a large surface allowing to print a delicate design. Tjaps are made with narrow strips of copper that are twisted and shaped into the patterns for the batik designs.

There are several variables in applying the perfect amount of wax to achieve clarity and precision in the waxed design - the amount of wax on the tjap has to be just enough to avoid loss of definition, and the speed of the application must be timed to perfection.

Wax resistant dyes are applied, allowing the artisan to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color and removing the wax with boiling water. The process of wax resistant dye can be repeated over and over to create complex multi-colored designs. The Island Batik artisans always begin with the lightest color and work gradually darker, and most batik is done this way: two to four colors, waxing out a larger area each time. Soda ash is then sprinkled on the fabric to enhance the color.

Once the dying order processes are complete, the fabrics are dried outside in nature, then pressed, and ready for delivery.

Since this process is all done by hand, it is normal for the fabrics to have "veining" in them. This is not considered a defect and is actually the nature of what makes a batik so special. Therefore, the fabrics in the layer cakes may not look like the fabrics in the picture.
