I designed and made ElFenn a ceramic wall sculpture with blue, cherry and gold surface. The ceramic wall mask face has painterly washes of color and a curved veil shape in Dutch gold leaf. Elfenn has an eye-catching and opulent presence. 10 x 7.5 inches.
The wall sculpture is named after a riad in Marrakech in order Morocco. The Bedouin women from this area had tattoos applied for protection and tribal connection. Facial tattoos were seen as the epitome of beauty. Some were designed to repel spirits and the evil eye. For poorer women, it was more affordable than gold jewellery. Some designs were applied around the eyes to relieve headaches and pain. The colorful glaze finish and gold leaf adds a sensuousness and luxe look to this artwork.
